Keep Your Saab Brakes in Good Condition

Keeping your Saab's brakes in good working order is a vital part of keeping your car healthy and running right. Brake systems for import cars like the Saab are build with minimal thickness in order to save weight, but this unfortunately means that the brake rotors much be replaced rather than simply turned. The second most common cause for failure is overheating or warping from heat, as brake rotors in import cars like the Saab are much more sensitive to overheating.

Here is some information that you absolutely need to know to save money on your Saab brake repairs --

Visually inspect the condition of your Saab's breaks at least once in a six month period. Keep an eye out for all of the following things.

The Brake Rotors or Discs, pads and drums should be regularly inspected for defects or discoloration. Discoloration may indicate damage from heat, or warping, and defects like cracking, breakage, uneven wear or grooves mean you need to replace the part immediately. Replace your brake drums, rotors and pads immediately if any defects are found. If your Saab has sensors that warn that the pads are worn, replace them as well. The Brake shoes should be evenly worn, and there should be no protruding rivets.

When you are inspecting the brakes, you need to check the wheel cylinders, the hoses, the calipers and the fittings for any chance of leaking hydraulic fluid. You should also check the master cylinder, the reservoir and the proportioning valve assemblies, replacing or rebuilding any faulty equipment as it is needed. If your brake pedal has gotten lower under your foot, you need to look into it, because there are a number of causes for this.

There are a number of sounds that you need to listen for, including squeaking, rhythmic noises, constant braking noises, and so on. As soon as you notice a problem of any type, you should take it in to be repaired immediately. If you delay the repair of your brakes, you may find it to be extremely dangerous.

Even if you do manage to avoid physical harm, if you delay when it comes to repairing brake problems, you can still significantly increase the costs associated with doing so. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

- Keep your brakes clean by washing them when you wash your car. This will keep dirt and dust off the pads, and also keeps the brakes easier to work on.

- Aim to keep the hydraulic reservoir at its proper level, using the fluid type that Saab recommends. You should never substitute the fluid or mix types.

- When it comes to brake problems, there are no quick fixes or shortcuts. They either function as they are meant to, or they do not. It is important that you know and understand your brake system so that you will know what to do when something goes wrong.

- Keep track of your repair information in a log and keep track of services, receipts and warranties.

- Most noises are related to your Saab's pads, but sensors and rotors should also be replaced when your pads are replaced.

Protect Your Vehicular Assets With GPS Tracking Devices

It has been ages since the military has been using GPS to monitor the enemy and ascertain locations that are important for their operations. GPS vehicle tracking technology is crucial to operations where the military needs to scout and locate places that will not be found on any major mapping devices.

GPS tracking is critical to the military as it can identify the type of vehicles used by the enemy and get their exact location within seconds. With this level of timely and detailed information, the chances of completing an operation successfully are very high.

GPS tracking systems are very beneficial to police officers, too. One of the reasons is because police officers can use GPS tracking to keep tab of suspects and fugitives. They can keep track of the location of the vehicle they are pursuing without being discovered by the suspects. Also, with GPS vehicle tracking, police officers can get to the perpetrator's location without engaging in a dangerous high-speed pursuit through crowded neighborhoods and along busy highways.

A GPS tracking device is a great tool for police enforcement in the event of lost or missing vehicles and their potentially expensive cargo.GPS based vehicle tracking is also useful for ordinary folks like you and I. It can be used for personal and commercial use. In our high-tech world, this system has become one of the best inventions that assist us with our daily tasks. Almost all drivers are grateful for their GPS vehicle tracking systems. With the GPS tracking system, fleet owners and managers are now able to track their vehicles effectively. This is the main idea and rationale behind the GPS vehicle tracking system. When fleet owners and managers need to locate their employees and vehicles urgently, they can rely on the GPS tracking system to get the job done.

GPS Vehicle Tracking Has Additional PurposesMany people who use a GPS system as a form of anti-theft device. Should there be any unauthorized movement of the vehicle, some of these devices may have the capability to disable the vehicle's engine. With a GPS system installed in the vehicle, car owners can have piece of mind.

There are people who use GPS tracking to keep track of some important people in their lives or of their vehicles when they are not in town. Usually, parents will use GPS tracking to keep tab of their teenage kids should they attempt to drive the family car. Although it may seem like prying, in some cases, the caution is warranted.

GPS vehicle tracking technology offers all owners of vehicles peace of mind. Although this comes at a cost, in most cases the vehicles or the cargo they carry or the people they transport are worth every single cent paid for this technology.A Variety Of GPS Tracking Systems For Different Needs

There are many different kinds of GPS vehicle tracking systems. Some are more suited for personal use; others for business users. Some examples of GPS vehicle tracking system are:

1) Wireless GPS tracking systemThis system allows you to get quick and simple access to all the crucial information that you need. The footprint for this system can be extensive. The GPS tracking software delivers thorough fleet tracking and data reporting automatically.

2) Entry-level GPS tracking unitThe difference between a wireless GPS tracking system and an entry-level GPS tracking unit is that it is customized for fleets that have basic vehicle tracking needs, like vehicle location, speed, stops and route.

3) Advanced GPS tracking systemThis system is equipped with "real time" tracking which is meant for larger company fleets which delivers detailed historical information.

Buying A GPS Vehicle Tracking System

It is not too difficult to find a retailer that provides GPS tracking systems and related services. Some retailers are better than others. The better ones have experts who actually use the products they sell and give expert advice regarding the features and functions of the devices that they sell. Others will have also quality customer services to handle any user queries regarding the products that they have purchased. Advanced Tracking Technologies, Inc. (ATTI) is one of the most popular places to such systems since they stock a wide range of different kinds of GPS vehicle tracking systems at reasonable prices. Diesel Engines, Better for the Environment

Diesel engines are always considered to be more efficient, less polluting, better economical performance. However here in Australia it is about 10cents more expensive then petrol and continues to soar. There were days when diesels were remarked as the most polluting fuel emitting toxics. There was a misconception that the direct injection engines were not suitable for the cars as they create noise and vibration. But now all issues have been cleared.

Diesel engines has proved to be more efficient in terms of fuel economy and also that they can perform much better than what petrol engines offers. The best example that proves its efficiency is the Volkswagen fitted with V10 diesel engine which delivers 313bhpand a torgue of 750Nm compared with the 6-litre, W12 petrol engine that producing the maximum of 420bhp and maximum torque of 550Nm.

The diesel engines also have a better combustion as they operate with the excess air with low energy as well as the higher compressed ratio. What has tilted the balance in the favor of diesels is the new particulate filter that will be beneficial and these kind of filters were first introduced by PSA Peugeot Citroen and later the such were adopted by other companies like Toyota.

As the diesel engine grows old, the emission output is more in the petrol engines compared to the diesel ones. Now the Fiat is working on a new project called NZEV (near zero emission vehicles). Fiat also started their project on common rail direct injection systems. The other work that is under progress is one where engines will be free from oil change. This work was already achieved by the brains of Daimler-Benz that are ten times better than the technology that was used decades back. There are diesel direct injection engines available in the market where the oil change is needed only after 40,000km or two years compared to the petrol version, where oil change takes place between 14,400km and 20,000km. Drive some of the diesel version cars and you will know the diference and will definitely change your impression about diesel engines.

Software For Car Safety

US auto major, General Motors, is developing software for its cars in India to provide back office services. The software can inform the owner in the event of theft, damage, or even send information to back office for help in the event of an accident.

With the development of this software, all fears related to theft can soon become a thing of the past. The new software also alerts the owner of any crisis situation in advance. According to GM sources, the sophisticated back office service will also assist during other crises situations in regards to the vehicle. A person driving the car can simply call up the back office of the company, inform them of the specific problem, and a service will be sent immediately to their location. The bursting of the airbags also sends out alert signals to the office.

GM is already using such software interfaces in the US, where an automatic system alerts the back office in case of an accident. Thereafter, a call is given from the back office to understand the gravity of the situation, and help is dispatched immediately to the location of the vehicle by using its GPS signal to locate it.

Such accident alerts can be extremely beneficial in India, where a driver in a serious situation can get help immediately. General Motors is working on components like engine control, steering and safety controls and is in the process of introducing more electronification of the vehicles. Once the sophisticated software is in place, it would mean that a car breakdown would have to be struck off from the list of ‘most common excuses’, a reason most often made for showing up late for work!

Used Car Market– Booming in India

Used cars are selling like hotcakes in India. Thanks to their easy availability and lower interest rates, the sale of used cars is only expected to further shoot up the sales ladder in the coming years. It is hard to find accurate data on the sale of used cars in India, where the unorganized sector plays a major role. However, if we go through the car dealers and the country’s largest vehicle financier list, more second-hand cars were bought and sold in 2007 than new ones. According to estimates provided by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. TrueValue used car division and Honda Siel Car India Ltd. Auto Terrace, which sells pre-owned cars, the used car market this fiscal year is about 10 percent more than that of new cars.

Car financers elsewhere have also pointed out this growing trend. They estimate that the used car segment is growing at 25-30 percent compared to the 13 percent for the new car market. In 2007, which ended in March, Indians bought 1.4 million new cars, compared to about 1.3 million used ones in the same period. Since March, Maruti sold 65,000 used cars, an increase of 45 percent compare to last year, while Honda sold 2,769 used cars in this period compared with 1,765 cars a year ago.

About 80 percent of the transactions in the second-hand car segment still occurred in the unorganized sector, facilitated by an estimated 2,000. With advances in technology and a record number of new car models entering the Indian market every year, customers today typically go for an upgrade or exchange within three years of their purchase, compared to the aged ideology of sticking to the same car for 10-15 years.

As many as 50 new and tweaked models have been introduced in India for the past couple of years. This trend is expected to continue and grow till the car makers’ pump in Rs 35,000 Crore in Asia’s third largest automobile market. To think India had barely two marquees three decades ago – the Fiat Premier and Hindustan Motors Ambassador. The 25-30 percent growth in the previously owned car market in the last three years has happened because interest rates for used and new vehicles are more or less the same.

Organised players like Maruti’s TrueValue and Automartindia Ltd have entered this business and are greatly contributing to the trend. They offer buyers and sellers the assurance of proper ownership and accident documentation along with quality and add-ons such as warranty and free services previously available only for new car buyers. The general consensus among the industry is that the used car segment may become almost double of the new car market in another five years as two-wheeler owners has been opting for four-wheelers.

In markets such as the US and France, the used car segment is 2.5 times larger than the new car one. India may outshoot this record in the years to come. After all, they do have the second largest population in the world.
